With advancement in composite fillings materials, white fillings now prove to be as successful as silver amalgam fillings. The life expectancy of a dental teeth filling can depend greatly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.
Tooth-colored dental fillings are designed to match the color of your teeth. The white tooth fillings material called composites is a mixture of glass or quartz filler that provide good durability and resistance to fracture for small- to mid-size restorations. Tooth colored tooth fillings can be used on either front or back teeth.

- Composite Tooth Fillings. Composite resin teeth fillings are tooth-colored making them a popular choice as they are asthetically pleasing.
- Silver Amalgam Tooth Fillings. Silver amalgam tooth fillings is stong and durable. Traditional amalgam tooth fillings of lower cost compared to other types of fillings and is completed in just one visit. However, amalgam fillings is less attractive and may have a tendency to expand and contract, meaning that it may cause a tooth to crack as compared with other filling materials.
- Ceramic Fillings or Inlays/Onlays/Overlays. Ceramic teeth fillings are often made of porcelain that are durable, strong and matches teeth color. Ceramic teeth fillings will require more than one visit for fitting.
- Gold Tooth Fillings : Gold fillings last for a long period of time of up to 15 years and is sturdy and non-corrosive. However, gold fillings cost much more than traiditional silver amalgam fillings. Gold tooth filings will also require more than one visit for fitting.
- Glass ionomers. These glass and acrylic fillings are short-term fillings that are commonly done for children whose teeth are still changing. Also, they can release fluoride, which can help prevent tooth decay.

Dental Procedure for Tooth Fillings
Fillings are only required if there is teeth damage.

- The decayed portion in tooth is first removed
- The affected area is then clean
- The cleaned-out cavity is then filled with composite resin material or sliver amalgam filling
- A light is used to cure and harden the composite resin material
- Your restorative dentist then shapes and ensures that your new composite resin dental fillings is properly adjusted and fitted
Post care Instructions for Composite Tooth Fillings
After your restorative dentist at our Thailand dental clinics has completed your dental fillings, care for your new tooth fillings should be taken:
- It is completely normal if your tooth may be sensitive to hot, cold or pressure after having tooth fillings. You may experience possible symptoms of hot, cold or pressure sensitivity but this will subsides and stop gradually within a few days to a couple of weeks. In very few instances, sensitivity could last longer than a couple of weeks.
- For teeth with deep decay or extensive preparation and if you experience a toothache spontaneously without hot or cold stimulation, call us and make an appointment for a re-check and/or adjusted immediately if this occurs. These symptoms could mean that the nerve in the tooth has been affected from deep decay to the extent that you may require root canal therapy.
- Silver amalgam tooth fillings become harder over the first twenty-four hours after they are placed thus avoid chewing hard foods or chewing directly on the new fillings for the first day. Chew only on the opposite side of your mouth. For composite tooth fillings, teeth with new composite dental fillings is functional as soon as the anesthetic wears off
- After tooth fillings is placed and adjusted, your bite should be correct but teeth may detect very small changes in the bite. If you think your bite is not correct, please call us and make an appointment for a re-check and/or adjusted.
- Restorations or dental fillings can develop decay around the edges where they meet the tooth. Therefore, it is very important to still maintain a high level of daily oral hygiene to help protect and care for your new restorations.
